I am a woman from a small, remote area of Atlantic Canada. I taught English in Seoul in the late 1990’s. It was scary for me to be alone in a big city and to have such strange, different food to eat, but interacting with the Korean people as well as seeing temples, palaces and mountains made it all worthwhile. Teaching there was challenging, mostly because of the huge language barrier, but the Korean people were very helpful to me and were always so curious. They loved to share their culture with me by explaining it and by taking me to restaurants and many tourist areas. After I had returned to Canada, I wanted to see more of Korea, so in late 1999, my husband and I went over for a vacation and saw Gyeongju, Busan as well as more sites in Seoul.
